Dude, Java was underrated in the previous posts, and that's why I kept arguing. Saying that Java is used to program washing machines and C is the almighty shit, used in rocket science, is just wrong. They both are powerful programming languages, and Java is C's child, since the main Java language is built around C and C++. But it's more practical to write a desktop application in Java than in C++. That's my sincere opinion. Only consider the libraries that would need to be ported from one system to another.
