You make some valid pointers, Jelmer. Though Firefox is slow for me out-of-the-box with no plugins installed. Initially I thought that may have been the issue, but it turns out the so-called memory leak is not a memory leak at all, according to that article, but rather a feature of Firefox in that it caches every page you visit for a certain amount of time.
I'm not overly keen on IE either, though I am now a big fan of Opera! Very fast browser and it gets the job done. I always make my applications compatible in as many browsers as possible. Though I do not go out of my way to ensure it's OK in browsers that have a user share of less than 0.5%.
