I can only really comment on the design because as you say, the coding side of things isn't actually finished yet.

Gaming designs are okay when thought of collectively - their designs are acceptable for gamers, but their usability is definitely lacking in many areas because of the graphic designers' fascination with graphic-heavy websites. Individually I feel many of them share all the same characteristics and so it's not really any different in that sense. I'd much rather a designer that took a risk with their designs based on the principles of usability and the psychology that should be taken into consideration - such as end-users automatically expecting the search box to be in the top right corner, and navigation down the left-hand side.

With that said, however, the XHTML coding is tableless and so kudos for that. It's some good stuff! Quite stereotypical of me, but I would have presumed a gaming website to have been using tables for their layouts. Don't get me wrong though, tables are vital in the development world - for tabular data. Though like Rizza said, DIVs are not the one and only elements in XHTML - albeit HTML 5 will bring a lot more to the table in that sense for actually describing sections.
