It's a major discussion, and a frequent one, discussing editors. It all comes down to taste. On Windows I like to use Notepad++ and WAMP as my setup. On linux I use gEdit with a few tweaks to get it looking how I want.

Also, my hosting is linux, so anything I develop on my laptop (linux) I know will work when uploaded. If I develop on my desktop (windows) then I can't be too sure.

I've never used anything else really as I found Notepad++ early on and got used to it. I like it for the reason it highlights loads of languages, so it's kind of a 1 editor fixes all problems sort of stuff.
