I'll take some time and try and understand a bit of what's going on in the above code (thankfully I recognize a good deal more of it now), style the page, and post some results. I definitely want to wrap my head around this concept a little more before I start tackling a dynamic calendar and actually utilizing databases and the like. :)

Thanks for the help, again, very appreciated. Also, do you have any other recommendations for tutorials, maybe a place where you got started that helped you along? The Lynda videos are nice, but being a good 12 hours in I'm also noticing they're very concise, and I'd like something a little more comprehensive.
