It's almost like an interview this, but two questions.

Why is it you're intent on creating a framework when there are many out there already? Is it purely to learn more about the language you're working with, and so being able to understand all the inner workings?

If you are making a framework to build your projects upon, why not use a current framework that is well supported and has much more programmers working on it? As you say, being open-source, it is unlikely to benefit you monetarily. So unless of course the answer to the first question is merely to educate yourself, then surely you'll be better off spending surfeits amount of time programming something which will eventually be profitable. Also I am sure that unless somebody else is in the same boat as you, to educate themselves, then they'll be more willing to contribute if the idea resulted in money rewards.
