syntax highlighting doesn't really make any differences to me, with time comes experince, its mainly just in the beginning you make these easy errors, if you do get an error it doesn't take other than 5secs to fix it anyway.
Maybe sync with a remote system is a great feature, but I've always worked as a one person and therefore never really needed to remote sync other than CVS which is done by Tortoise in explorer really easily =)
