People *should* code to make money, I certainly do, but I also love it so much, it’s my hobby as well.
I get my satisfaction by giving back and helping the communities, I don’t charge my students to teach them either, I’m doing it in my off hours. -- I make enough money programming that I don’t need to make any with my contributions to open source. -- Certainly that is not for everyone, as you pointed out.
