The term dwarf planet was adopted in 2006 as part of a three-way classification of bodies orbiting the Sun. [3] This classification states that bodies that are large enough to have cleared the neighbourhood of their orbit are defined as planets, while those that are not massive enough to have acquired a round shape are defined as small solar system bodies. Dwarf planets come in between and have been called by some astronomers as "something that looks like a planet, but is not a planet"
If you check this out aswell it will clearly say 8 planets under the image
