Heh. I live in California. We have them all the time. In fact there have been several decent quakes all around the greater outlying areas the last week or so. May be time to invest in a boat.
Fortunately I haven't been effected by any really major ones like the
quakes (I was woken up about 4:30AM by the
, but it was not as bad, we're North of there). They're still pretty unsettling.
I remember being a little kid when we had a pretty strong one come through, must have been early - mid 70's. (I guess I should look that up). Anyway, it didn't last long but I distinctly remember the light pole outside (about 50' tall, all steel, mounted to concrete) was wiggling back and forth like a straw.
